Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. — Philippians 2:16 KJV
As you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. — Philippians 2:16 NIV
Reflection on Verse for Today
The Word of God is to be kept in our hearts as the only standard for truth, and we are to look to Jesus every single day because He is the Author and Finisher of our faith and will one day come to take us to be with Himself. We are to hold fast to the Word of life until that glorious day when Christ comes to take us to be with Himself in glory.
In addition to the heavenly recompense they would receive, Paul wished for these Philippians to remain steadfast in their faith and immerse themselves in the truth of God’s Word in order to show that his efforts among this small church at Philippi had not been in vain.
While we pursue the goal of winning God’s great call in Christ Jesus, we too must remain steadfast in the word of life and advance in grace and knowledge of Jesus.
May we not only strive to earn the prize for ourselves by godly living, but also to share our joy with all of our Christian friends and family as we wait for the imminent return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
My Prayer
Thank You, Almighty Father, for the truth that is found in the Bible. In order for my life to honour the Lord, Who died for me and rose again to offer me His eternal life, I pray that I may cling to the word of life and stand out as a light in the middle of a dark and twisted world. Bless all of my Christian brothers and sisters, and may we all advance in grace together as we work toward the upward call in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
