But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. — Isaiah 53:5-6 KJV
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. — Isaiah 53:5-6 NIV
Thought and Reflection
I’m not sure what it takes to understand how Jesus under its weight. He had my sin, our sin, your sin. He permitted it to be imposed on Him in order that we wouldn’t have to endure the consequences. In that sacrifice, however horrible it may be and as painful as it was, we’re restored — free of the most horrible illness that a person could ever have, spiritually and physically.
He was crushed, pierced to be punished and rebuked for our transgressions. In the place of them we have been left with His peace and a place where we can belong.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, fill my heart with the joy of Your great love.
Lord Jesus, I will never forget the price You paid for Your loving kindness. Inspire me with the eternal and enduring memory of Your eternal grace. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
