Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God. — Colossians 3:22 KJV
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. — Colossians 3:22 NIV
The call to work “not only when their eye is on you” encourages us to live a life of integrity. This principle can be applied to our daily responsibilities and interactions, emphasizing that our actions should not be merely for the sake of appearance or to gain approval from others. Instead, our efforts should be genuine, driven by a sincere heart, regardless of who is watching.
Moreover, doing our work with “reverence for the Lord” deepens this concept by adding a spiritual dimension. It suggests that our ultimate accountability is not to human authorities but to God. This perspective can transform mundane or challenging tasks into acts of worship and devotion, where the quality of our work becomes a testimony to our faith.
My Prayer
Lord, in every task, no matter how small or great, let my actions be an offering of worship to You. I pray that my work be a reflection of Your love and glory. Help me to remember that in serving others, I am serving You.
Guide me, Lord, to live out this verse not only in my work but in all aspects of my life. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me, so that my life may be a continuous expression of Your grace and truth.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
