Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? — Romans 6:16 KJV
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? — Romans 6:16 NIV
Reflection
Obedience to God which leads to righteousness is not about legalistic adherence to rules but rather a heartfelt response to God’s love and grace. It is all about aligning our will with God’s while seeking His guidance and living in a way that reflects His character and love. This obedience is liberating and life-giving which leads us to a deeper relationship with God and a life that is marked by righteousness that is not our own but the righteousness that comes from God.
As believers, we must pursue a life of faith and trust in Jesus through whom we can escape the slavery of sin and embrace the righteousness that leads to eternal life.
