Reflection on Verse for Today

Through the atoning work of Christ, we are justified by God’s grace and given a free, irrevocable pardon for our sins: “Man is justified by faith – without the acts of the law.”

Paul states a crucial point at the beginning of his letter: “The just shall live through faith.” In addition to coming to the conclusion that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law, Paul is also using this knowledge as a launching pad to reach the higher spiritual altitudes of what it means to be “IN Christ.”

The first stage in a journey through life is being justified by faith. The redeemed are then called to conduct their everyday lives by faith, not by the works of the law. The first step towards a life where we are expected to live by faith is justification. This is done so that “the life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and sacrificed Himself for me.”

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You, that I am righteous through faith alone, not by works of the Law or works of the flesh. Thank You that because of the Lord Jesus Christ, I am accepted. I have been released from the shackles of the Law and clothed in His righteousness through faith in Him.

I pray that I live my life by faith rather than relying on works of the Torah or the body to win Your favor. Thank You for releasing me through the work of Christ so that I may go on living by faith in the One who loved me and gave His life for me. I ask in His name, Amen.
