Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. — Psalm 97:10 KJV
Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. — Psalm 97:10 NIV
Reflection
What a strong and repulsive term is “hate.” People are not to be hated by us. We must have contempt for evil. Combination that is difficult to achieve, yet extremely necessary. The evil one is to blame for the existence of evil in this world; he is the advocate of hatred, deceit, and death. Therefore, whenever we see the ugly face of evil, let us have the confidence to stand up to Satan and his work. Let us pray for those who are caught in its tentacles as we are going through this process, even if they view us as our enemy.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, please cause my heart to hurt because of the evil in this world. Give me a holy aversion to things that are in conflict with your will and your character. Yet, Father, just as you redeemed me by grace and saved me when I was a captive to sin, grant me the strength to care about others who are in the clutches of the evil one. In the same way that you redeemed me, you redeemed me while I was a captive to sin. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
