Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long. — Proverbs 23:17 KJV

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. — Proverbs 23:17 NIV

Reflection on Verse for Today

Remember that envy is a destructive emotion that caused discontent and resentment, whereas the fear of the Lord brings wisdom, contentment, and peace.

We must therefore guard our hearts against envy and to passionately seek a reverent relationship with God. As we do so, we find true contentment, wisdom, and joy in the Lord while we realize that the temptation of sin is fleeting compared to the eternal richness of walking in God’s ways.

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray that You will fill me with a zeal for Your presence, a thirst for Your wisdom and a hunger for Your righteousness. Let my heart find contentment and joy in You alone, knowing that the pleasures of this world are fleeting compared to the everlasting joy found in You.

Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You, my heart aligned with Yours, and my steps steadfast in Your truth. In Jesus mighty Name I pray, Amen.
