But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. — Jeremiah 1:7 KJV
But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.” — Jeremiah 1:7 NIV
Reflection on Verse for Today
How many times do we question ourselves, doubting if we are truly capable or prepared enough for the tasks God has set before us? Today’s bible verse offers reassurance in the midst of these uncertainties.
The words in this bible verse are a direct conversation between God and Jeremiah, but they still speak to us today, thousands of years later. God was commissioning Jeremiah for prophetic ministry, a task that Jeremiah felt ill-prepared for because of his youth. Yet, God, in His infinite wisdom, made it clear that it wasn’t Jeremiah’s experience, age, or capability that mattered—it was God’s command and His divine enablement.
This verse calls us to reflect on our own lives. How often do we back away from tasks or opportunities because we think we’re too young, inexperienced, unqualified, or simply not ready? While it’s important to evaluate our abilities honestly, it’s equally crucial to remember that God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called.
God, in His boundless love, sees potential in us that we often fail to see in ourselves. His plan is not confined by our human limitations, but rather unfolds through them. When He calls us to a task, He doesn’t expect us to succeed by our strength alone. Instead, He promises to be with us, guiding our words, actions, and thoughts, just as He promised to Jeremiah.
Now we learn that with God’s provision in our lives — no matter what He calls us to, we can trust that He will equip us with all we need to carry out His will. The next time we feel too young, too inexperienced, or too unprepared, let’s remember this bible verse from this day and take courage in God’s promise. Let’s silence the voice of doubt with the voice of God’s truth: we are capable and ready because He is with us.
