Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. — James 4:17 KJV
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. — James 4:17 NIV
Reflection
When Jesus performed healings on the Sabbath and narrated the story of the Good Samaritan, he was teaching this idea to his disciples. Our Lord made it abundantly plain that it is a kind of evil for us to fail to perform a good deed for another person who is in need, even if we have a theological justification for not performing the good deed. Let’s make a name for ourselves as a community that is renowned for its charitable acts and generous spirit. Let us not allow any reason, and especially a religious pretext, to prevent us from taking advantage of the magnificent and holy possibilities to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, make use of me today to benefit someone who is in need so that they may come to know and experience your grace, and so that Jesus, your Son and my Savior, may be glorified. In the heavenly and priceless name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
