Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph. — Amos 5:14-15 KJV
Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts.
Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph. — Amos 5:14-15 NIV
Reflection for Today's Verse
A significant number of individuals assert that God is on their side. In point of fact, the question that matters the most is whether or not we are on God’s side! That is defined more by what it is that we want and do as opposed to what it is that we think and say. God has a deep desire to be with us, but he will not compromise his integrity in order to show us cheap grace — that is, grace that does not require us to conform our behavior to that of God. He is searching for people who profess to be Christians but whose actions do not match their words.
My Prayer
Holy, Most High God, Your holiness and goodness are beyond my comprehension. I am well aware that even my most arduous efforts will be fruitless in their pursuit. However, my deepest desire is to become more like you, dear Father, in any way that it is physically feasible for me to do so. As I look for you and your character in my life, please let me know that you are here with me and that you are present. I pray in the name of Jesus, who is known as the Righteous One. Amen.
