Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. — Romans 6:11 KJV
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. — Romans 6:11 NIV
Reflection
We are no longer in Adam as a result of the fact that we died with Christ; therefore, the power that sin had over us to keep us imprisoned has already been shattered. Our life in Adam was a part of the old creation, which condemned us; however, our new life is now hidden with Christ in God, because we are a part of a new creation, which is outside the realm of sin, the influence of death, the jaws of hell, and the jurisdiction of the law, because there is no condemnation to those that are in Christ Jesus.
On the other hand, the old sin nature will make every effort to subdue the new nature that is found in Christ. because the spirit’s lusts are directed against the body, and the body’s lusts are directed against the spirit. The old sin nature lusts against our new life in Christ, and vice versa; yet, in Christ we have all that we need to keep the old self in the place of death – for His grace is adequate, and His power is made full in us as we abide in Him. It is of the utmost significance to internalize the truth of the word of God and to consider ourselves to be dead to sin and alive to God in the person of Jesus Christ as our Lord.
My Prayer
Dear Lord, I thank You that You made the choice to identify with my sins in order to make the choice for me to identify with Your righteousness. I give You thanks that Jesus not only died for my sin, but also died unto sin, in order to give me the ability to live my life in spirit and truth.
I pray that I would not only be able to understand this truth but also put it into practice and consider my former, sinful self to be dead to sin and my present, redeemed life in Christ to be alive in God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
