For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law. — Romans 2:12 KJV
All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. — Romans 2:12 NIV
Reflection on Verse for Today
We are also rescued throughout this era of the Church by faith in the Word of God, the Word who became flesh. Paul says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” We are saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ’s shed blood for the remission of sins and life eternal. Through having faith in the eternal Son of God who became Son of Man, we are saved. We are saved by placing our faith in His death, burial, and resurrection in exchange for the pardon of our sins and everlasting life.
God’s judgment varies depending on how much light each Jew and Gentile has received. All are sinners and imputed with sin, all fall short of God’s righteousness, and all are subject to condemnation. Those under the Law will be judged by the Law, which will condemn them, and those who are not under the Law will be judged by whatever revelation they have received, which will also condemn them.
The entire Bible is inspired by God and is significant, but Romans is the foundation of all Christian doctrine because it lays out human depravity in the most systematic fashion before revealing the way to salvation. Romans walks the believer step-by-step through Christian doctrine and provides a thorough, methodical explanation of the cornerstones of our faith, which we would do well to heed. We are also confronted with the startling reality that man is a sinner in need of a Saviour, and that Christ is the only solution.
My Prayer
Thank You, Almighty Father, for the principles found in the book of Romans. I ask that the gospel of Christ never leave my mind.
I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that the only way I can earn Your pardon is by grace through faith in the atoning blood of the incarnate Word of God. I’m grateful that I was saved because I firmly believed that Jesus took the penalty I deserved and, in doing so, raised me from the dead to life. In Jesus name. Amen.
