He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. — Psalm 91:1 KJV
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. — Psalm 91:1 NIV
Reflection on Verse for Today
David is proclaiming his faith that God is a refuge in times of trouble. He cites a variety of threats as illustrations of the perils that God’s people do not need to be concerned about. When God chooses to protect someone, there is nothing that can bring that protection to an end. People who love and reverence God are able to rely on God’s provision and protection, and they know that nothing takes place except from God’s permission.
What a wonderful thing it is to be as close to God as his shadow, and to be able to share in the comfort of his presence while it shields us from the elements. If our hearts want to draw near to him, he is not so far away. Let’s make the decision to get closer.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, please make your nearness known to me, for you are a kind Shepherd and an Abba Father. I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life in your company as I strive to reflect your holiness and grace. Because of the blood of Jesus, I can approach you with complete confidence in your love and grace. I bow my head and pray in the name of Jesus, the name that is above every name. Amen.
