Reflection

My affinity for music began at a young age. Songs continue to be a key that opens up the part of me that is most openly given over to God. It makes it easier for me to express my affection for him as well as my praise for him. However, as the psalmist says, his song stays with me throughout the night, and especially on those evenings when I have trouble falling or staying asleep. Even when I can’t recall what I dreamed during the night, I often awaken to a praise song that had been sung over me, with me, and by me while I was sleeping. It goes something like this: “at night his song is with me — a prayer to the God of my life… the Lord who directs his love” to me.

My Prayer

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of song and music. You are the God of my life. I want to express my gratitude to you for providing me with a wealth of happy things to sing about. I am grateful that when I sing, you are able to hear not only the words and the music of the song, but also my heart. I long for the day, my Father, when I will be able to hear you sing and I will be able to join the heavenly chorus that is gathered around your throne. To pass the time until then, please sing throughout my life. In the name of Jesus, I make this request. Amen.
