Thought and Reflection
Like the rules parents must follow for children — don’t drink from what’s in the cupboard, don’t play on the streets, don’t go through the parking lot behind cars and so on. God’s direction is not to constrain us, but to shield us. His directives which are both negative and exorbitant will ensure our safety and to ensure that we are in the best possible condition. They are the way to live and preserve it.
The Old Testament Law had various laws regarding cleanliness that didn’t make sense until many thousands of years after their writing when we came to appreciate the existence of viruses and bacteria. Through all these centuries they were able to ensure that the Israelites were protected under God’s direction, though they didn’t understand the reason God gave the law in the first place.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to see Your words as living. I know that You have provided Your instructions, Your desire for holiness, to bless me and to protect me. Take away my stubbornness so that my daily life will be aligned with Your plan. In Jesus Name and with the power of his name, I request this. Amen.
