Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: — Proverbs 2:11 KJV
Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. — Proverbs 2:11 NIV
Thought and Reflection
My most costly mistakes were done in a hurry, and when I didn’t take the time to pray and contemplate what I was about to say or do. Although discretion and understanding can be gained through experience and learning but they also come as an act of God. However, this gift isn’t given upon request. It is a result of patiently seeking to trust, awaiting, and longing on God’s guidance, and also from a desire to serve him as a person of character.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, for I fear that I am more often a “character” than I am a person of character. Forgive my selfishness to play to the crowd. Sometimes I try to be witty and popular, rather than being a person of discretion, understanding, and integrity. Help me to see through the temptation of haste and find your path to integrity. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
