He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly. — Proverbs 3:3-4 KJV
Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. — Proverbs 3:3-4 NIV
Thought and Reflection
Rapidly responding to anger or insult or challenge suggests strength to people in the present. But, reacting quickly in anger is a mistake. An unfiltered, impulsive response rarely has the desired long-term result. This kind of behavior almost always adds to the problems that require attention.
Being patient in dealing with painful and difficult situations shows compassion and is usually more effective in the end and prevents the unneeded loss of trust, friendships and respect.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be self-controlled and patient. I know that these virtues are the fruits of your Spirit’s presence in my life, therefore I’m asking for the Holy Spirit exert more influence on my life and heart.
Please grant me the wisdom and understanding to not speak out until I’ve had the time to think and pray about the issues and the people who are involved. In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen.
