For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. — Matthew 6:14 KJV
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. — Matthew 6:14 NIV
Thought and Reflection
As Christians we live in a world of grace and forgiveness. When we forgive others, the reason for that forgiveness is the enormous obligation that God has already paid our sins. Yet, at the same time when God is aware that His forgiveness is in circulation and is passed onto others by us, He offers more forgiveness to us. Although it can be difficult to give someone forgiveness when we’ve suffered a real harm, Jesus wants us to realize that the blessings of this practice far exceed the cost.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for cleansing me and forgiving me through the atoning sacrifice offered by Your Son Jesus. Thank You for urging me to forgive others in the same way You have already forgiven me. Thank you for insisting that Your community be an open and forgiving community.
Please forgive us, and particularly when you are slow, hesitant or reluctant about forgiveness. May You grant us a forgiving heart. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
