For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. — Mark 9:41 KJV
Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. — Mark 9:41 NIV
Reflection
This straightforward passage has two implications: First, even if the blessing is simple, we are blessed when we bless God’s children. Second, we can rejoice when others do the most insignificant things to bless us in Jesus’ name, because we receive the kindness and grace of others, and God rewards that kindness with His abundant grace.
Let us live to bless others! God is pleased when we do so. We are fortunate. We bestow blessings on others. Furthermore, God has promised to bless those who are gracious to us. God lavishes His blessings on all of us. The more we bless each other, the more blessings there are for everyone in God’s miraculous economy.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be a blessing to everyone around me. Guide me this week into the life of someone who desperately needs Your grace. Please give me the discernment to see them when they cross my path.
Give me the strength to reach out and bless them. Keep them in my thoughts and prayers as I strive to be a long-term blessing to them. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
