Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. — John 8:31-32 KJV
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:31-32 NIV
Reflection for Today's Verse
Freedom is one of the few things that is sought after more than anything else. People die for it. People pray for it all the time. People work hard to achieve it. Knowing the truth is the path to genuine liberty. Following Jesus’ teachings and example is ultimately the only way to know the truth. The truth is not merely something that you can believe or think about. You can only know the truth by actually living it. The words “Blessed are you who do these things!” are frequently used as a concluding statement in Jesus’ teaching. Only by action will we ever be able to know the truth that sets us free.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, not only do I want to feel your presence in my everyday life, but I also want to know that the decisions I make bring you joy. As I commit to living my life in accordance with your word and your will today, I ask that you instruct me in more of your truth. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
