Reflection on Verse for Today

It is a terrible thing when unregenerate man falls into the hands of an angry God but it is a shocking indictment when God’s people choose to form alliances with unregenerate nations instead of trusting in the God of their salvation Who bought them with His precious blood.

It is simple to mock Israel’s apostasy as portrayed by Jeremiah or to condemn those in Christendom who wander from the path of holiness. But, before we do so, should we not examine our own Christian walk and reflect where we have placed our faith and on whom we have placed our hope?

Do we put our reliance in man’s works or in the strength of fleshly achievements? Do we trust our financial stability, our negotiation skills, or the provision of our government? Do we put our faith in our own abilities, man’s successes, fleshly works, or unholy alliances? OR do we put our faith in the Lord our God and put our confidence in His everlasting love and promised provision?

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who never changes. Thank You for Your unchanging love and grace, which is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Forgive me for wandering far from You and drinking from the cracked cisterns of this world. May I never put my trust in man or my own skills by relying on acts of the body or trusting in my own power.

Allow me not to be tempted away from Your Word of truth, and help me to keep my heart’s eyes and mind’s focus on the Lord Jesus, for He alone is worthy. I pray in the might of Jesus. Amen.
