If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. — James 1:26 KJV
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. — James 1:26 NIV
Thought and Reflection
“It’s no big deal!” This is the snort of a skeptic who rationalizes unprofessional, indecent or offensive speech. A friend of mine confessed to me some time back, “Our moral plunge in the office began when we let our language slip. It didn’t seem like that a big deal at the time, but what it led to was disastrous.”
The absence of religion in our everyday language is unreal and hollow. Let’s use our language to be uplifting and encouraging instead of to slander, curse or gossip.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me from not using Your words to benefit others. I am sorry for the times when I’ve used my words to hurt someone else and in ways which disrespect You and Your sacred claim to my life.
Make use of my words today to inspire, bless and provide comfort so others can experience Your grace through me. In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen.
