Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments. — Habakkuk 3:17-19 KJV

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. — Habakkuk 3:17-19 NIV

Bible Verse Reflection

As the Church, we are required to be a voice of prayer, just as did Habakkuk and ask that the Lord will remember mercy. We need to get on our feet and admit that, as the Body of Christ, we haven’t fulfilled the duties we should be doing as well as have done things we shouldn’t have.

As the Body of Christ we ought to be humble and pray and seek the Lord’s face to turn away from our wicked ways and cries out for mercy “though the fig tree should not blossom and there be no fruit on the vines.. though the yield of the olive should fail and the fields produce no food.. though the flock should be cut off from the fold and there be no cattle in the stalls. Yet I will exult in the LORD. I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.. for the Lord my God is my strength.”

My Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for the example set by Habakkuk and the lessons that we can be taught. I admit that, as Israel we too have wandered off and strayed away from Your ways. We’ve left the first love and have embraced the world. Please forgive us Lord. Cleanse Your Church and bring back our joy that comes from our salvation.

Keep us looking forward to Christ and living in faith, because only You are our strength and salvation. In Jesus Name, I ask for prayer. Amen.
