Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. — Galatians 6:7-8 KJV
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. — Galatians 6:7-8 NIV
Reflection for Today's Verse
God had established a law of sowing and reaping, according to which everyone of us will eventually be rewarded with a harvest based on what we have sown in our lives. Whatever we decide to plant in our lives, whether it is for good or for evil, will eventually bear the fruit that corresponds to that decision.
We will bring forth the fruit of that negligence when we fail to fulfill our responsibility as God’s children and do not live our lives in accordance with His will for us. But those who plant the seeds of justice will eventually harvest a recompense that is also righteous.
Those who plant a few seeds will end up with a paltry harvest, but those who plant a lot will bring forth a lot: some will get a thirtyfold return, others will get a sixtyfold return, and some will even get a hundredfold return. This particular passage is speaking directly to those who are saved by grace through faith in Christ, and we would do well to pay attention to Paul’s instructions on how to live a godly life. Although this is a divine principle that is true in the lives of both sinners and saints, this particular passage is speaking directly to those who are saved.
We pray that the law of sowing and reaping will teach us how to conduct our lives and that we will do everything to the glory of God, for God is not pleased when His children choose to ignore or disregard His will. People who disregard His Word and His will, as well as those who disregard His precepts and principles, will not be able to treat His name with contempt or make light of it because the Lord will not tolerate it.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, I am grateful to you for the idea that you get what you put into something. I ask for the ability to cultivate a generous spirit and a giving heart so that the things I do and say may bring praise and glory to Your name. I pray that whatever I do is for the praise of God and the benefit of other people. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
