Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. — Proverbs 19:15 KJV
Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry. — Proverbs 19:15 NIV
Reflection
In the writings of King Solomon, he clearly condemns laziness and warns about the dangers it brings. He made comparison of a laziness person like one who is on deep sleep, unaware of their surroundings and doing nothing. Such character put a person at a greater risk of poverty and hunger.
Even apostle Paul understood the importance of work and the sin of “slothfulness.” He encouraged the church at Thessalonica to exclude giving handouts to those who were capable of work yet chose not to out of laziness. He wrote in 2 Thessalonians 3:10: “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.”
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me that at some point, I have been lazy doing things that I needed to do in Your ministry and for my family. Deliver me from this stronghold of laziness and grant me a heart so that I can balance between rest and work. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
