Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. — Proverbs 16:19 KJV
Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud. — Proverbs 16:19 NIV
Thought and Reflection
What is your point of significance? The proverb asks us to see the world in a new perspective, comparing it in relation to the rest of society. Being humble and a connection with the oppressed and poor are highly valued by God. Arrogance and power do not.
God did not simply give us this saying, He also sent us His Son to show the meaning. If we could only be able to live this proverb. Ah! But Jesus does provide us with the chance to show it by saying, “Follow me.”
My Prayer
Dear Father, I recognize my vulnerability and weakness to temptation by the lure of my own culture’s façades, and in the pressure of trying to conform to similar to those in the “popular crowd.” Thank for Jesus who was powerful yet was humble. He was a leader but recognized the poor neglected, ignored, and rejected.
I ask You to help me make a difference in the world around me by embracing the people who are marginalized of the loop, ignored, and excluded. In Jesus name. Amen.
