Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. — Matthew 6:1 KJV
Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. — Matthew 6:1 NIV
Thought and Reflection
What is the reason we choose to do what we do? What’s the motive behind our actions? It’s easy to be enticed into performing religious activities so that we appear nice to other people. This is the case even when the culture isn’t supportive of our beliefs. People around us who are aware about our faith, as well as those who are Christians in our lives are the ones who will be the targets of our conduct.
Although we want to exert the right influence on the people around us, we should not make decisions about religious service solely on the basis of being considered by others to be recognized for it. Our aim should be to give glory to God and bless other people.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, please cleanse my heart from any motives that are not true and help me to serve others in accordance with their needs and my desire to be a godly person in helping them. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
