To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. — 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 KJV
That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. — 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 NIV
Reflection for Today's Verse
The cost has already been paid. The ransom has been delivered. The wrath of God was staved off not as a result of anything that we did to pacify him, but as a result of God’s own sacrifice of Jesus as payment for our wrongdoings. If God has gone to such great lengths to adopt us into his family and bring us back into right relationship with him, how can we deny his offer? We absolutely cannot! Please accept our hearts as an offering, Father God.
My Prayer
Lord, I am sorry that my transgression has caused you pain and has insulted your holiness, for I know that it has done so. Because of this, it is impossible for me to express my gratitude to you using words. Even though my sin caused you pain, you nevertheless made a sacrifice so that I can be redeemed from it and brought back into right standing with you. Thank you for your love and praise you for your grace, and teach me to commit to share your mercy. In Jesus mighty name. Amen.
