But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. — 1 Samuel 16:7 KJV
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7 NIV
Thought and Reflection
Have you ever thought about the number of potential good friends you’ve lost by judging someone by your first impressions of them? I’m amazed by how the first impression rarely provides much information about a person. We’re never going to be able to judge people correctly until the Lord decides at the end of the day what’s really going on in their hearts.
Aren’t you thinking that we should allow them time to discover what’s in their souls before making the decision on them? We shouldn’t only focus on the outside appearance!
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are the only one who can know the heart of each one. Help me to become more patient with other people before I form an opinion on them. Help me to look at them in the same way that Jesus does. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
