For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. — 1 Peter 2:19 KJV
For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. — 1 Peter 2:19 NIV
Reflection on Verse for Today
Suffering wrongfully! Even just hearing those words gives me the creeps all the way up and down my spine. It does not appear fair or suitable, and it is highly unlikely that this is the case. However, we have many brothers and sisters who, out of their dedication and loyalty to the one and only True God and to his Son, Jesus Christ, are able to persevere through the anguish and injustice of their suffering. Wouldn’t it be amazing if those of us in our spiritual family who do not personally experience severe pain or persecution would begin each day by praying for those in our spiritual family who are subjected to such things as hardship, abuse, and suffering at the hands of others?
Let us pray that our Heavenly Father would not only give them the strength to bear the trials that they are going through in order to bring praise to God, but that he will also deliver them as they are demonstrating the grace of Christ in the midst of such trials.
My Prayer
Holy and loving Father, please bless your children today, especially those who endure suffering while exhibiting the grace that Jesus brought to the world. I pray that you will be a source of support for my brothers and sisters who are going through terrible times, whether they are going through this because they are persecuted or because life is challenging. In Jesus mighty name that I pray. Amen.
