Celebrating a Legacy of Faith: The Journey of Truth For Life
In the world of Christian broadcasting, few stories resonate as deeply as that of Truth For Life. As we reflect on the remarkable journey that began with a simple idea and the fervent prayers of dedicated believers, we are reminded of the profound impact that faithful ministry can have on countless lives.
The Humble Beginnings
Truth For Life was born out of a vision that started with the initiative of others and the unwavering support of the Parkside elders. It all began when Bob Butts, our chief operating officer, passionately advocated for the program to be aired on Moody Radio. His persistence paid off, and soon, large reel-to-reel audio tapes were sent from Parkside Church to Chicago for editing. This grassroots effort laid the foundation for what would become a national ministry.
The early days were marked by a commitment to clear biblical teaching. With the encouragement of influential figures like Ed Atsinger from Salem Radio Network, Truth For Life began to reach a wider audience. The providential timing of Dr. Lloyd John Ogilvie’s departure from his daily broadcast allowed us to step into a prime slot on KKLA in California, instantly expanding our reach across the nation.
A Commitment to Biblical Clarity
At the heart of Truth For Life is a dedication to teaching the Bible with clarity and relevance. This mission has been driven by the collective prayers and guidance of many individuals who offered their wisdom during our formative years. The goal has always been to trust God’s Word to do its work, and as we look back, it’s evident that this commitment has borne fruit.
As technology has advanced, so too has our ability to reach people around the globe. Digital platforms and social media have allowed us to share the Gospel in ways that were unimaginable just a few decades ago. This global outreach is both humbling and encouraging, reminding us of the power of God’s Word to transcend barriers.
Milestones and Future Endeavors
The year 2025 holds special significance for me personally. It marks not only my fiftieth wedding anniversary with Susan but also fifty years in pastoral ministry. After serving at Parkside Church for over four decades, I will transition to a larger role at Truth For Life, focusing on teaching the Bible to a broader audience. This change is filled with excitement and anticipation as we seek to strengthen local churches and establish believers in their faith.
As we move forward, we are reminded of the biblical principle found in Galatians 6:9: “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” This verse serves as a guiding light, encouraging us to remain steadfast in our mission.
The Role of Community in Ministry
The success of Truth For Life is not solely attributed to individual efforts but rather to the collective work of a community of believers. From the elders at Parkside to the countless supporters who have prayed and contributed, each person plays a vital role in the ministry. Together, we plant seeds, water them, and trust that God will bring about growth.
As we celebrate the milestones of Truth For Life, we also look to the future with hope and expectation. The story is far from over, and there are many chapters yet to be written. We invite you to join us on this journey, whether through prayer, support, or simply by sharing the message of the Gospel.
