“But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”
— Romans 7:6 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
This verse hits deep because it reminds us that Christianity isn’t about rule-keeping—it’s about freedom. Not a reckless, do-whatever-you-want kind of freedom, but a deep, soul-liberating release from the burden of trying to earn God’s favor.
Think about it. The law—rules, commandments, the whole “do this, don’t do that” structure—was never meant to save us. It just pointed out how much we needed saving. It was like a mirror showing us the dirt on our face but offering no way to clean it off. But Jesus? He didn’t just wipe the slate clean—He gave us an entirely new way to live. A life powered by the Spirit, not by exhausting effort.
So, what does this mean for us? It means Christianity isn’t about trying harder. It’s about surrender. The Spirit leads in ways that laws never could. Instead of being driven by guilt and obligation, we’re motivated by love, joy, and the actual presence of God in us.
If you’ve ever felt like faith is just another burden, maybe it’s time to lean into the Spirit instead of the struggle. Because in Jesus, we don’t just get a second chance—we get a whole new way to live.
Personal Prayer
Lord, thank You for setting me free. I’ve spent too much time trying to measure up, trying to earn what You’ve already given. But Your Word reminds me that I am no longer a slave to rules—I am alive in Your Spirit.
Help me to walk in that freedom, not by my own strength, but by leaning into You. Teach me to listen to Your voice, to follow where You lead, and to serve You not out of duty, but out of love.
When I slip back into old ways—when I start striving instead of surrendering—gently pull me back. Remind me that I am Yours, not because of what I do, but because of what Jesus has done.
Fill me with Your Spirit, Lord. Let my life reflect the grace, joy, and freedom that come from truly knowing You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
