“That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.“
— Romans 15:32 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
I love how personal and deeply human this verse is. Paul, a man on mission, an apostle carrying the weight of the gospel to the nations, still longs for fellowship. He’s not just about the work—he’s about the people. He’s about the joy of shared faith, the refreshment that comes from being with brothers and sisters in Christ.
It’s a reminder that even the strongest believers need community. Paul, the great theologian, church planter, and letter-writer, isn’t asking for a moment of solitude. He’s asking for the joy of presence. The kind of joy that only comes when you’re with people who truly understand you—who lift you up, speak life into you, and remind you that you’re not alone in this walk of faith.
And notice—this isn’t just about what he gets from them. It’s about mutual encouragement. He expects to bring joy as much as he receives it. That’s the beauty of Christian fellowship. It’s never meant to be one-sided.
So maybe today, this is a nudge to lean into that. To stop isolating. To seek out those people who refresh your soul—and to be that person for someone else. Because joy and refreshment in the Lord? They were never meant to be solo experiences.
Personal Prayer
Dear Lord, Thank You for the gift of fellowship, for the way You designed us to walk this journey together. Just as Paul longed to be with his brothers and sisters, I pray for the same kind of joy and refreshment in my relationships. Lead me to people who strengthen my faith, who remind me of Your goodness, and who bring joy into my life.
And Lord, help me to be that person for someone else. Let my words encourage, let my presence bring peace, and let my heart always be open to those who need a friend in the faith. Keep me from isolation, from the lie that I have to do this alone. Instead, remind me that You created us for community, and in that, we find Your joy.
May my time with others be filled with Your Spirit, and may our fellowship always point back to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
