Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. — Psalm 141:3 KJV
Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. — Psalm 141:3 NIV
Thought and Reflection
The way we speak is crucial in our lives? The Bible says that our speech reveals the attitude of our hearts. Even the book of Proverbs teaches repeatedly that our words can hurt or heal.
In the New Testament, it encourages us to speak only what will benefit those who hear us. In light of these Bible teachings, this psalm of David is very appropriate. Only the Lord can help us tame the tongue and use its power to bless other people.
Let’s ask God to take control of it as He does our hearts.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, I do not wish for my speech to ever harm You or Your children.
Help me to redeem my language and use it to glorify You and bless Your children and proclaim the gospel to those who don’t have a relationship with Your Son.
By the grace of Jesus I pray. Amen.
