Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. — Proverbs 21:13 KJV
Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered. — Proverbs 21:13 NIV
Bible Verse Reflection
It’s interesting to note that God is not intent on being responsive to the needs of the less fortunate. Whatever excuses we may come up with to justify our actions or justify our actions, the Lord declares it to be an involuntary “closing of our ears.”
In the same way that we lend to the Lord by giving to the poor, we withhold from the Lord when we respond selfishly to need–that gets repaid as well.
My Prayer
Dear Father, at times I have become selfish towards the needs of people in need. I am sorry for having ignored the needs of poor people so often. Please grant me a heart of generosity toward the less fortunate and remind me the goodness of You to us. In Jesus name. Amen.
