Proverbs 20:22 – Today’s Verse for September 11, 2024 Wednesday

“Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.”
Proverbs 20:22 KJV

Reflection on Today's Verse

God asks us to resist the urge for immediate payback, to take a breath and trust Him to handle it. It’s not about being passive or ignoring injustice, but rather letting go of the need to control the outcome. God’s justice is far better than anything we could manufacture in our frustration or anger.

Waiting on God to deliver us doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing. It’s active faith. It’s praying, seeking peace, and trusting that He’s working behind the scenes—even when we can’t see it. And honestly, isn’t that a relief? We don’t have to carry the burden of revenge.

This kind of patience, though, is hard. It goes against the grain of what the world teaches—where revenge is often glorified. But as Christians, we’re called to something higher. The promise here is that God will deliver us. Maybe not in the way we expect, and maybe not immediately, but His timing and wisdom are perfect. And isn’t that comforting?

When we hand over our hurts to Him, we’re freed from the bitterness that revenge fosters. Instead, we can focus on living in peace, knowing that God’s got our back.

Personal Prayer

Lord, I come to You with a heart that sometimes struggles to let go of hurt. You see the times when I want to repay wrong with wrong, and I confess that I don’t always wait for You to act. Please help me to trust in Your justice, even when it’s hard to see. Teach me to release my need for control and surrender my pain to You, knowing that You are my deliverer.

Give me patience to wait on Your timing and grace to respond with love, not bitterness. Guard my heart against the desire for revenge, and fill me instead with peace and trust in Your wisdom. Thank You for always working behind the scenes, even when I don’t understand. Help me to rest in the assurance that You will make things right, in Your perfect way.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
