Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee. — Proverbs 20:22 KJV
Do not say, “I will repay evil”;
Wait for the Lord, and He will save you. — Proverbs 20:22 NASB
Reflection
When we choose to not return evil for evil, we break the cycle of retribution. We become instruments of God to a world that desperately needs it. Our actions can become a witness of God’s love and justice to others, showing that there is actually a different way to be one that reflects the heart of God.
Let us therefore wait on the Lord, trusting in His deliverance and justice. In doing this, we set ourselves in line with God’s purposes to become channels of His redemptive work in this world.
My Prayer
O Lord, my burdens and pain I cast at Your feet. Take from me a desire for vengeance but instead nurture deep trust in Your sovereignty. Guide my thoughts, words, and actions to show forth Your love and mercy. Let my life be a witness unto Your goodness and faithfulness.
Thank You, Father, for You have been my Deliverer and my Defender. I am confident that You are able to deliver me, executing justice in Your perfect way. I pray that Your will come to pass in the my life and those around me.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
