Reflection on Today's Verse
Evil doesn’t just show up in the world around us — sometimes it creeps into our thoughts, reactions, and the way we treat others after we’ve been hurt. Romans 12:21 is a quiet but powerful reminder that believers are not called to win by fighting darkness with more darkness. We don’t overcome insults by giving sharper ones, or injustice by becoming unjust. Christ shows us a better way — to answer evil with mercy, cruelty with compassion, and bitterness with love.
Choosing good doesn’t mean pretending the hurt didn’t happen. It means we refuse to let it shape our character or steal our peace. Every time we forgive when it would be easier to stay angry, every time we choose integrity when no one is watching — we are overcoming evil with good.
Personal Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us through Your Son what it means to overcome evil with good. When I feel wronged, tempted, or discouraged, help me not to respond with anger or bitterness. Give me a heart that chooses mercy when revenge feels easier, and strength to do what is right even when no one sees.
Lord, protect my mind from darkness and fill my spirit with Your peace. Teach me to walk in love, speak with grace, and live in a way that reflects Christ. May good — Your good — have the final word in my life today.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
