But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. — Matthew 6:33 KJV
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you. — Matthew 6:33 NASB
Reflection
We spend so much of our lives chasing after “all these things”—success, security, approval, comfort. The world constantly tells us these are the things that matter. But Jesus flips this on its head. He’s saying that if we focus first on God’s kingdom, which means living in alignment with His will and values, everything else will find its place. It’s not about neglecting our responsibilities or ambitions but about trusting that when we put God’s priorities above our own, the rest will follow.
There’s a profound peace in this approach. It’s a shift from striving to abiding, from anxiety to trust. It’s recognizing that God knows what we need even before we do, and He cares deeply about the details of our lives. Seeking the kingdom first isn’t about neglecting our earthly needs—it’s about believing that God’s got those covered while we focus on what truly matters.
In practical terms, this might mean letting go of the pressure to have it all figured out or to be in control of every aspect of our lives. It might mean spending more time in prayer, being more intentional about loving others, or simply trusting God with the outcomes of our efforts. It’s a call to align our hearts with His, to make His will our priority, and to trust that in doing so, we’re living the life we were always meant to live.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess that I often get caught up in the worries and pursuits of this world. I strive for success, security, and approval, sometimes forgetting that You know my needs better than I do. Help me to release my anxieties and to trust in Your perfect plan for my life.
Guide my steps today and every day to align with Your will. Show me how to live out Your values in my decisions, my relationships, and my actions. Let my life be a reflection of Your love, grace, and truth.
Grant me the peace that comes from knowing that when I seek You first, I lack nothing. Help me to rest in the assurance that You are with me, providing for me, and guiding me in all things.
Thank you, Lord, for Your presence and for the promise that when I seek Your kingdom above all else, You will take care of the rest. Help me to place my trust in You today and always.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Neighbors wave as she bikes to the farmers’ market, basket rattling with sunflowers and Psalms scribbled on kraft-paper price tags.Alona trusts that Scripture behaves like clay: press your palms in, and a vessel appears where empty air once lived. Afternoon workshops with foster teens prove the point; they mold hope into coffee mugs, then watch steam carry it forward.Diplomas? Only framed sketches of hands lifted in worship. Awards? A dog-eared gratitude list taped to her fridge. Open her reflections when cynicism scratches—she’ll slide a brush into your grip and show you light hiding in the smear of everyday color.
