“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.”
— Matthew 6:20 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
Think about it—Jesus was hitting on something we all know deep down: material stuff just doesn’t stick. You’ve probably bought things you thought would make you happy, only to feel meh about them later. Or saved up forever for a new phone, just for it to be outdated in a year. Heaven, though? That’s eternal ROI, baby. Jesus says, if you’re gonna invest, go big—invest in love, kindness, and hope. You can’t lose out there; no moths, no rust, no storage fees, no sketchy internet thieves hacking your accounts.
And isn’t it wild? God’s economy is like the anti-stock market. The more you give—love, grace, generosity—the more you end up with. Every time you show kindness, patience, or a little grace to someone, you’re essentially adding to this invisible but eternal “savings account” that actually lasts. It’s not just this fleeting happiness or validation, but a real spiritual wealth.
So, next time you’re tempted to splurge on the latest insert fancy item here, maybe think of what treasures really last. Because, honestly, heaven doesn’t have a Black Friday—but it’s got some killer rewards.
Personal Prayer
Lord, thank You for reminding me where true treasure lies. I confess it’s so easy for me to get caught up in wanting more—more stuff, more success, more security here on earth. But You call me to something higher and so much deeper. Help me to see past the temporary, and instead to invest my heart in what truly lasts.
Teach me, God, to value kindness, love, and faith over all the things that fade away. Help me to make choices that honor You and bless others, building a treasure that no one can take away. Give me eyes to see the eternal value in small acts of love and in daily faithfulness.
Fill me with Your joy, Lord, the kind that comes from knowing my heart is safe with You. Let my life be a reflection of Your Kingdom values—storing up the kind of treasure that leads me closer to You, day by day.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
