Reflection on Today's Verse
Grace and self-justification do not mix. The moment we begin trusting our performance, rule-keeping, or religious effort to make us right with God, we shift our confidence away from Christ.
Paul is not saying that good works are worthless. He is warning that good works can never become the basis of our acceptance before God. Christ alone is enough. His finished work cannot be improved by our effort, and it does not need to be supplemented by our obedience.
Living by grace means resting in what Christ has already accomplished, then allowing that security to produce grateful obedience. We do not obey to earn God’s love. We obey because, in Christ, we already have it.
Personal Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the grace You have given me through Jesus Christ. Forgive me for the times I depend on my own effort, goodness, or religious performance instead of resting in Christ’s finished work.
Help me remember that I am not justified by the law, but by faith in Jesus. Keep my heart from pride, fear, and self-reliance. Teach me to stand firmly in grace and to obey You out of gratitude, not as a way of earning Your favor.
Let my life reflect the freedom, peace, and confidence that come from trusting Christ alone.
