“But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”
— Jeremiah 9:24 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
It’s funny, right? Here we are scrambling to get ahead, show off, and win at life, and God’s like, “Cool, but do you know Me? Do you even understand what I’m about?” It’s almost as if He’s saying, “Guys, the real flex is knowing Me—not just as some distant, bearded guy in the sky—but actually knowing my heart, my character.”
The stuff God delights in is radically different from what the world does. The things we’re often drawn to, the endless pursuit of recognition or control, doesn’t really do it for Him. But kindness? Justice? Righteousness? These are God’s love language. And when we start getting that, it changes the game. Instead of worrying about whether we’re “winning” in the eyes of society, we start caring about whether our lives reflect God’s heart. Are we kind to others? Do we stand for what’s right? Do we seek justice for those who are marginalized?
Here’s the kicker—this isn’t about being a “good person” to earn God’s approval like some kind of divine brownie points system. It’s more like aligning ourselves with what matters most to Him. It’s understanding that God’s version of “winning” is tied up in how well we reflect His character in the world around us. And that? Well, that’s worth boasting about.
So, yeah, next time you’re tempted to brag, skip the résumé rundown and maybe just say, “I know God. And He’s awesome.”
Personal Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to seek Your heart above all else. Teach me to delight in what You delight in—kindness, justice, and righteousness.
Open my eyes to see where I can be Your hands and feet, reflecting Your character in the lives of those around me. Make me more concerned with Your approval than the world’s. When I’m tempted to boast or prove myself, let my only claim be that I know and love You. Shape me, God, to be someone who not only understands You more but also lives out Your love and truth each day.
I want my life to be a testimony of Your kindness and justice, so guide me in every step to reflect who You are. Thank You for being patient with me as I learn and grow closer to You.
I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
