But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. — Isaiah 53:5 KJV
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. — Isaiah 53:5 NIV
Thought and Reflection
Christ is appointed to one day to sit on David’s throne and rule as Israel’s King of kings.. be that as it may, first He needed to come as Israel’s suffering Servant.. as prophesied of old. He had to come as a Man who was despised and rejected by men: a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
Christ will one day return as Israel’s Messiah.. when they shout out as a country: “blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord,” yet first He needed to be wounded for their transgressions and sins. He was crushed for their iniquity – and He was bruised for yourself and me also: and the chastisement of all our peace was laid upon Him – that day on Calvary’s cross.
My Prayer
Dear Father, thank You that the Lord Jesus suffered for my transgressions and bore my sins in His body on the cross. Thank You that my guilt has been exchanged for peace which now rests in my heart.
Thank You that I have been delivered from the bondage of sin and death and that by His stripes I have been healed from my diseases: clothed in His righteousness and made me as Your child.
Thank You that Jesus Himself is my Redeemer and the sinless Substitute for my sins which by His death and resurrection have been flung as far as the east is from the west. Thank You in Jesus name that I give You praise. Amen.
