Ephesians 4:22 – Today’s Verse for January 3, 2025 Friday

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.”
Ephesians 4:22 KJV

Reflection on Today's Verse

The “old self” Paul describes is kind of like that embarrassing social media post from 10 years ago. It’s cringe-worthy, outdated, and not who you are anymore—or at least, not who you’re trying to be. God’s plan for us isn’t just a tweak here and there; it’s a total transformation. Think butterfly out of a cocoon, not caterpillar on a diet.

Here’s the kicker, though: the “old self” doesn’t go quietly. Oh no, it clings on like gum to your shoe, whispering, “Are you sure you don’t want to stay in your comfort zone? It’s cozy here.” But deceitful desires don’t just play nice—they sabotage. It’s like being in a toxic relationship with your own impulses.

Paul’s advice? Strip it off. Drop the drama, ditch the dysfunction, and embrace the person God knows you can be. And while you’re at it, remember that this isn’t a solo project. The Holy Spirit is your personal trainer in this spiritual gym, cheering you on as you bench-press grace and forgiveness.

So, let’s commit to the divine wardrobe upgrade. Out with the spiritual sweatpants; in with the righteousness robes. Because life’s too short to live in deceitful desires when God’s got a whole new look ready for you.

And hey, if the struggle feels real, just remember: even the best transformations start with messy middle moments. You’ve got this, and more importantly, God’s got you.

Personal Prayer

Help me, Lord, to shed that part of me—the version that is corrupted and weighed down by sin. Give me the strength to step out of my comfort zone and trust You as You guide me into the person You created me to be. Replace my old ways with Your truth, my selfish desires with a heart that longs for You, and my weaknesses with the strength of Your Spirit.

Lord, I know this isn’t an easy process, but I ask for Your patience and grace as I grow. When I’m tempted to turn back, remind me that the life You offer is so much richer and freer than anything I could hold onto in my past.

Renew my mind, refine my heart, and let Your love shine through me. Thank You for never giving up on me, even when I resist change. I trust that You’re working in me for good, and I surrender my old self into Your hands.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
