Catholic Hospital Secures $75 Million Donation, Marking Largest Gift of Its Kind in the U.S.

A remarkable milestone has been reached in New Jersey, where Holy Name Medical Center has announced the receipt of a staggering $75 million donation from the Douglas M. Noble Family Foundation. This generous gift marks the largest donation ever made to a Catholic hospital in the United States and the second-largest to a hospital in New Jersey, setting a new standard for philanthropic support in healthcare.

Michael Maron, the president and CEO of Holy Name Medical Center, expressed his gratitude for this monumental contribution, stating, “With this extraordinary support, we can expand access to specialized care through initiatives such as our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, address the ongoing physician shortage by launching our graduate medical education program, and bring state-of-the-art technology to critical services — including a groundbreaking neuroendovascular institute.” This commitment to enhancing healthcare services reflects the hospital’s dedication to serving the community’s needs for years to come.

The announcement was made during a special event that also commemorated the sixth anniversary of Dr. Doug Noble’s passing, the namesake of the foundation. Joan Noble, the president of the Douglas M. Noble Family Foundation and mother of the late physician, shared how prayer influenced her decision to support Holy Name. “Through Fr. Roy Regaspi and prayer, I was blessed to be introduced to the people and mission of Holy Name. It is here at Holy Name where I found Doug’s legacy would live on,” she said, highlighting the deep connection between faith and philanthropy.

This donation comes at a pivotal time as Holy Name Medical Center prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary, a milestone that underscores its long-standing commitment to providing compassionate and comprehensive healthcare. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, the hospital has a rich history of serving the community and addressing its evolving health needs.

The impact of this donation will be felt not only in the immediate enhancements to healthcare services but also in the long-term benefits for the community. By expanding access to specialized care and addressing critical shortages in the medical workforce, Holy Name is poised to lead the way in healthcare innovation and excellence.

As we reflect on this generous act of giving, it serves as a reminder of the profound difference that faith-driven philanthropy can make in our communities. The legacy of Dr. Doug Noble will continue to inspire future generations, ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible to all.
