“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.“
— Romans 6:11-12 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
Reckon. Not pretend—count it settled. In Christ, the old me is dead to sin, and I’m learning to stop sending flowers to a funeral. Sin still talks loud, but it lost the badge; it can’t reign unless I hand it the keys. I feel it most in my body—habits, reflexes, little compromises that ask for “just this once.” Paul says, “reckon yourselves dead indeed unto sin,” and I hear an accountant stamping PAID. What if I treated every temptation like a trespasser: you don’t live here anymore. Grace doesn’t pamper the flesh; it frees me to offer these hands, eyes, mouth as living instruments—alive to God. Not earning. Responding. Some days I forget and drift. Then I remember: I’m not fighting for victory; I’m fighting from it. So today, I’ll let grace be the loudest voice and refuse to let sin sit on the throne of a body Jesus bought.
Personal Prayer
Father, teach my heart to reckon what You’ve already declared. When old cravings reach for the wheel, remind me the car belongs to Christ. Move me to say no because I’m already Yours, not because I’m trying to become.
Fill my mind with resurrection sense; make obedience my joy, not my currency. Take my body—my minutes, my impulses—and tune them to Your life today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
