“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.“
— 1 Timothy 6:10 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
Money makes promises. Not small ones either—security, applause, control. It talks like a savior. “Stick with me and you’ll never fear again.” Paul hears that voice and calls it what it is: love of money, a root system that creeps under everything and warps the soil. Not money itself. The affection. The clutch. The way our hearts reach for numbers to do a job only Jesus can do.
I’ve seen it dress up as responsibility. “I’m just being wise.” Then it starts driving the schedule, picking the friendships, vetoing generosity, rewriting prayers. You know that quiet panic when the bank app loads too slowly and your chest tightens like your whole life is buffering? That’s a liturgy. That’s worship without a hymn.
Grace changes the script. Under law, you measure, count, prove. Under grace, you receive. If the cross is true, you’re not auditioning for worth anymore. Your name is already on the ledger—paid in full—and suddenly money slides back into its proper place: not a master, not a mirror, just a tool. Useful, limited, not holy.
Personal Prayer
Father of mercy, loosen my grip. Where I’ve trusted balances more than Your heart, forgive me. Where anxiety has become my accountant, fire it. Teach me the joy of enough. Put steel in my contentment and softness in my hands.
Make me quick to give, slow to compare, eager to rejoice when others thrive. Thank You for Jesus—my true wealth, my steady portion, my better security. Lead me to use money like a servant and love You like a son. Amen.
