“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
— Colossians 2:6-7 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
Paul gives us this beautifully packed little instruction manual for living in Christ. It’s like the “how-to” guide we didn’t know we needed—except instead of being full of confusing IKEA parts, it’s all about faith and thankfulness. He’s saying, “Look, you’ve accepted Christ, so now walk in Him.” But walk in Him? That’s more than a stroll through the park on a sunny afternoon. It’s like putting on the best pair of shoes (faith) and making sure you’re rooted, built up, and strengthened like some mighty oak tree—but one that’s also oddly grateful all the time. It’s a spiritual core workout, really. And thankfulness is the secret sauce. I mean, ever notice how thankful people are more fun to be around? It’s like gratitude becomes this turbo boost for faith.
Paul knows staying rooted and grounded isn’t exactly second nature. We’re human, we get distracted by, you know, everything—work, Netflix, that one neighbor with the noisy lawnmower. So, he’s reminding us to stay focused, like, “Hey, don’t just accept Jesus and then drift off like a bad Wi-Fi connection.” Stay connected, stay nourished. And when you’re filled with that kind of spiritual growth, you start to overflow with gratitude, like someone who just found out their favorite restaurant has unlimited breadsticks. Who wouldn’t want to live that way?
Personal Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for guiding me to walk in Your ways, just as I have received Christ Jesus as my Savior. Help me stay rooted in Your truth and strengthened by Your love, even when life pulls me in a hundred different directions.
I pray that my faith grow deeper each day, like a tree planted by streams of water, drawing life from You. And Lord, fill my heart with gratitude—overflowing, contagious thankfulness—for all the ways You bless me, big and small. In every step I take, remind me that I am walking in You, and may my life reflect Your grace and goodness in all that I do.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
