“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.“
— 2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV
Reflection on Today's Verse
Paul isn’t bragging here—he’s breathing. It’s the deep exhale of someone who gave everything and didn’t flinch when it got hard. He didn’t cruise through life untouched by struggle. He was knocked down, shipwrecked, beaten, betrayed—yet he stayed the course. Not because he was superhuman, but because he was anchored. Faith wasn’t just something he carried—it carried him.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about persistence. About showing up when your legs are tired, your heart is bruised, and your prayers feel like echoes. The “good fight” isn’t glamorous—it’s gutsy. And that crown of righteousness? It’s not a trophy for being impressive. It’s a reward for enduring with your eyes locked on Jesus when every voice told you to quit.
We don’t get to write the length of our race. But we do get to choose the finish line we’re running toward.
Personal Prayer
Lord, I don’t always feel strong. I lose focus. I want to give up when the road stretches longer than I expected. But you’ve called me to fight the good fight, not with fists, but with faith. Help me keep showing up, especially when it’s messy, especially when I’m tired.
Remind me what matters. Anchor me in the hope of that crown—not because I earned it, but because you promised it to all who love you. Give me grit wrapped in grace, eyes that see beyond now, and a heart that keeps beating for you.
Let my life echo Paul’s not in perfection, but in perseverance. Amen.
