Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. — 1 Timothy 6:17 KJV
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. — 1 Timothy 6:17 NASB
Reflection
Wealth often brings a sense of security and self-sufficiency, but Paul reminds us that this sense is deceptive. Wealth is uncertain and can vanish, leading to a false sense of security. Arrogance often follows when one begins to rely on material wealth, forgetting that it is transient. The warning here is clear: do not let wealth define your worth or dictate your attitude.
This encourages believers to maintain an eternal perspective. Earthly wealth is temporary, but the treasures we store in heaven are eternal. By focusing on God and His provision, we align our hearts with His kingdom, finding true joy and fulfillment.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your abundant provision and the blessings You have bestowed upon us. Help us to avoid the arrogance that wealth can bring and to place our hope firmly in You. Teach us to be good stewards of the resources You have given us, using them to bless others and to glorify Your name. May we always remember that our true security and joy come from You alone.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
